First Person is an independent publication exploring modern life through the people who live it.
We publish essays, reporting, conversations, and visual storytelling from people writing about something they have lived, witnessed, or cannot stop thinking about. The stories we're most interested in are the ones nobody has thought to tell yet.
What we believe
Stories begin by noticing.
Observation is the method. Perspective is the beat. Understanding is the outcome.
You have to have been there.
We publish what people have lived, witnessed, or studied closely — not commentary on things read secondhand.
Anyone can write for First Person.
Not experts. Not professional writers. Not people with platforms. People who pay attention.
The ordinary is worth the attention.
The neighbourhood changing. The job nobody understands from outside. The thing everyone experiences and no one names.
You might not be the first person to experience something. You might be the first person to put it into words.
